About Us
Olympia Local 443 is affiliated with Council 28 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), and the Washington State Labor Council (WSLC). Chartered by the American Federation of Labor (aka the AFL-CIO) in 1945, Local 443 represents the interests of approximately 10,200 state employees in Thurston, Mason
and other more distant counties throughout the State of Washington.
General membership meetings take place on the third Tuesday of each month, in the auditorium of the General Administration (GA) Building in Olympia, Washington. The Local executive board meets on the
first Wednesday. See our

Olympia Local 443 is governed by the Constitution and by-laws of the AFSCME, Council 28 and the Local constitution.
Mission
The mission of Local 443 is to provide a forum for Local 443 members to discuss, debate, organize and promote the objectives of the AFSCME International which include:
Organizing
To promote the organization of workers in general and public employees in particular.
Collective Bargaining
To promote the welfare of the membership and to provide a voice in the determination of the terms and conditions of employment. We are committed to the process of collective bargaining as the most desirable, democratic, and effective method to achieve this. Both as union members and as citizens, we shall also employ available legislative and political action.
Career Service
To promote civil legislation and career service in government.
Research and Education
To provide research and educational services and activities designed to assist members and affiliates. To foster cooperation among affiliates.
Social Progress
To cooperate with other labor organizations in particular and other segments of society in general towards the end that the material riches of American society be more justly distributed and the moral promise of American life be realized.
International Relations
To work with our brothers and sisters in other lands toward the improvement of the conditions of life and work in all countries, toward the diminution of international tensions and a reduction in the use of armed forces to resolve disputes, and toward genuine fraternity of all workers.
Thirteen Local 443 members serve on the WFSE/AFSCME Statewide Executive Board.
